My husband quit his job on June 13th. The insurance goes from the 15th to the 15th, so his coverage "ended" on June 15th. We elected to continue coverage on him (pre-existing condition) via Cobra on July 10th. Since then the company has changed insurance plans so we are caught in a confusing jumble.

The new plan started on August 1st and the old plan ends officially on August 15th. The woman that deals with the cobra has no clue what the rules and laws are, so I have had to tell them how to do it up to this point. So, my question is in regards to the premiums and due dates..

Is it correct that we would owe 2 months retro for the old plan (from 6/15 to 7/15 and 7/15 to 8/15)? We have 45 days from the date we elected (7/10) to pay this, correct?

Now, in regards to the new plan. I am still waiting for a cobra form to fill out for the new plan but we have already been added to the plan. Again, this plan started August 1st, so when is our premium due? I know we have a 30 day grace period but the employer said they have to pay their premiums in advance. I was reading a previous post on this cobra message board about advance premiums and it got me wondering how this would apply to our situation. Is Aug 1st the due date, but we have 30 days to pay? I hope this wasn't too confusing :) Thanks for the info! You've been very helpful to me so far.
