Tyler,

You might have a way out in addition to what Craig mentions below. If you had 18 months of continuous coverage when you lost COBRA due to moving to Utah, you may have HIPAA eligibility. HIPAA would retro to your last COBRA date and provide an individual health plan on a guaranteed-issue basis which would cover the maternity. You need to apply HIPAA within 63 days of your last COBRA date of coverage.

Run, don't walk to a local independent health agent in your area and find out ASAP! Time is ticking and you may have a way out!

: You are right, you are screwed! But check with Utah and see if they have any sort of subsidy for pregnant women. You might also ask if you can convert the cobra policy to a regular health policy with the company if they offer coverage outside of NV.

: : I'm screwed. When I left my employment in Nevada in mid July we had group coverage with a national insurance carrier that allowed for out of state non-provider network coverage. My wife is 9 months pregnant with twins and we moved to Utah because of a job change (I'm not eligible for coverage with my new company for 90 days). I elected for COBRA but now my previous employer has changed insurance carriers who don't offer any coverage outside the state of Nevada. So I was initially faced with a 500 dollar deductible and a $3000 out of pocket max to now having to pay the full doctor and hospital bills which could easily be 10 grand or more if they are premies. Do I have any recourse under the COBRA law or am I screwed? I also had my wife do many screening tests thinking that I was covered because my employer did not notify me of not being covered.
