I began paying for Cobra from my former employer on June 1. Less than two months later my employer sent me a note saying that it would be DOUBLING the monthly payment I must make from about $175 per month to nearly $400 per month. It is a huge increase and I find it hard to believe that the company suddenly discovered that the health insurance costs twice as much as they just me just a few months ago. Is this normal procedure or are Cobra rates going up everywhere? Also, is there any way I can confirm the increase in the cost of my health insurance WITHOUT having to speak with my former employer?
