Hello. I am hoping you can help. We have an emergency with a need need of clarifcation in regard to COBRA coverage. Can you help provide definate answers, or at least put me in touch with someone who can provide definate answers? I would greatly appreciate it.
1. My wife is pregnant and expecting our first child in February. She works as an office manager, and has not had health care coverage with her company bc she has been covered under my company health care;
2. I lost my job last week, which creates a big problem. Our health coverage is good until November 1. Then we can do COBRA under my company plan, but the cost is $500/month for myself and my wife. We can't afford that;
3. Questions: Does my wife have to be under her company insurance for any length of time before she qualifies for COBRA? She has been working for her company for nearly three (3) years (in January it will be 3 years). If she/we go on her company insurance starting November 1, then she quits in December (as we were hoping to do to prepare for the baby), would she be able to get COBRA under HER company plan? Her COBRA coverage is about $200/month if we did that, considerably less than my COBRA is.
We don't know what we can do under these circumstances, and we need legally binding answers from the right people. Any help you could provide in a timely way would be MOST appreciated.
Thank you.
