I was working until 9/02, and was laid off. I was offered Cobra and accepted it for 18 months, which is up in 2/04. I am 67 yrs. old, and received Medicare Part A automatically when I was 65. I now want to enroll in Medicare Part B and am getting many conflicting answers. I was told when I took out Cobra, that I can join Part B when my Cobra was up, and I would not be penalized or charged more. and could get Part B right away. Now some are telling me that I will have to join during open enrollment and will not have Part B coverage until 7/1/04. This will leave me without any insurance coverage for 4 months. What am I to do ?-
