: Our son graduated from college in December. We have begun the paper work necessary for continuation of insurance with COBRA. My question is, in November we received authorizations for surgery scheduled in January, after his graduation. What effect will COBRA have on the benefits already approved while he was a full time student?

It shouldn't have any effect since there won't be any interruption in his coverage. His COBRA will become effective on the date he is terminated from your plan. He'll still be covered under the same health plan, with the same benefits. His billing classification will be changed, though, to reflect his new COBRA status. The insurance company will send him a new ID Card to reflect his updated status. In your son's case, since he's already started the COBRA enrollment it should be a pretty smooth transition and his eligibility shouldn't be affected at any point in the process.
