We may have made a mistake. My wife quit her job in March 2003. She elected COBRA coverage, but it was so expensive, we terminated COBRA coverage in October 2004 and got an individual policy (with no maternity coverage). Now she's pregnant. We don't qualify for the state risk pool because we are still within the 18 month COBRA period (i.e., we could have kept COBRA). We would qualify for the risk pool if the COBRA premiums were higher than the risk pool, but they aren't. Can she re-enroll in her former employee's group policy (without exclusions) since we are within the 18 month period, or is COBRA coverage no longer available since we voluntarily canceled it? We have had individual coverage continuously since October.
