My divorce was filed on July 28 2003 I lived in Arkansas. I worked for: Raytheon Aircraft Services and provided health insurance for my spouse. A stipulation in my divorce decree required me to provide equivelant health insurance coverage for my spouse for a period of one year after the divorce decree was filed. I continued working for Raytheon Aircraft services in Arkansas until approx. Feb 1 of 2004. My Health insurance coverage was through United health insurance. I then transfered to Raytheon Aircraft services in Tampa Florida and even though the company was was technmically the same the insurance coverage was not. The new coverage was through principal financial group. My problem is that when I allerted my human resources dept of the the change in marital status and stated that I was orderd to provide health insurance they simply stated that if it was a stipulation of the divorce then we'll just have to keep her on your health insurance plan. Well, I didn't even think twice about it until I transfered to Tampa Florida. I then realized that Principal life wouldn't insure my Ex-wife. I'm still obligated to provide coverage until July 28 2004. My question is, can I obtain cobra coverage for my ex wife at this point. It has been almost seven months since my divorce was finalized. What options do I have. Will all of her medical needs after feb 28 2003 be considered pre-existing and therefore not coverable.
