My cobra payment was 550.00 per month. Upon initiation of the cobra policy, I was given a sheet which listed the amount of each payment and the due date of each payment up to the maximum period of 18 months.
I just received a notice that because of a change in the employer's choice of insurance plans, my cobra payment due in 2 weeks is over double the original amount - $1200.00.
Is this acceptable under cobra laws?
Does the fact that they gave me a complete payment plan with amounts and dates due untile the end of the coverage period make them have to grandfather my coverage (and monthly payment) under the old insurance plan?
