My husband quit his job and we received the cobra notice and he did not send the cobra notice back. My husband told his employer he did not want to continue coverage. In the meantime he had an outpatient bloodtest at the local hospital, he told the hospital he would need to be billed privately due to no health insurance. The hospital submitted the bill to our old insurance company and they paid the claim and now my husbands former employer has sent us a bill for $1500.00 for two months insurance preminums. When questioned they stated that we didn't sign a paper saying we didn't want coverage so now we are responsible for this amount because of the claim submitted for the blood draw. I'm confused, I thought COBRA was something you agreed to take within 60 days of quitting your old job. Please send me some advice as this employer wants this money now.
