HIPAA law requires that some form of guaranteed-issue individual coverage be made available to those exhausting COBRA or mini-COBRA continuation. It varies by state in it's application, some states require carriers to offer individual plans while others use the Major Risk program for HIPAA.

: I am confused about what role HIPPA plays in helping individuals obtain health insurance. I recently applied for health insurance and was denied because I take an anti-depressant. My cobra insurance will run out in April of this year. How do I use HIPPA to assure I will get covered for individual health insurance.
